[Stamps-Sites_TFS.FTW] "The Boston Family of Maryland", Matthew M. Wise (1967) Library call no. CS 71 B7455 p. 36, No. 45 THOMAS WILLIAMSON BOSTON Thomas Williamson Boston, son of Gertrude Benston and Levin Bosto was born in Somerset Co., Md., probably near Rebobeth, 27 Apr 1786 (baptised Coventry); he died near Cave City, Kentucky, probably in the summer of 1867, before 9 Sept. He married (lic. Somerset Co., M 3 December 1816) Amelia Adams, daughter of Thomas Adams. She was born in Somerset Co. in 1793; she died near Cave City, Kentucky, about 1882. In the will of his uncle, Richard Boston (signed 15 Feb. 1800) Thomas was named (as "William") residual legatee after his brother Elijah. The records of Coventry Parish show that "Thomas W. Boston" was enrolled as a member 1 June 1816. On 10 Dec. 1816 Hester Curtis, a free negro, was bound to Thomas "to work as a female to enable her to get a living" (Som. Bonds GH 1:104). With his wife Thomas moved to Barren Co., Kentucky, probably soon after their marriage in 1817. He is mentioned as one of the early settlers by Franklin Gorin in The Times of Long Ago - Barren Co., Ky., John P. Morton & Co., 1929, p. 22. Thomas's signature is affixed to a note (dated 25 Oct. 183 in the Barren Co. Courthouse authorizing the clerk to issue a marriage license for Tho. W. Vance to marry his daughter, Amelia Ann Boston. According to the Federal Census of 1850 Thomas Boston and his family were living in the first division of Barren Co. (p. 646, #236). Thomas was listed as a farmer. On 22 June 1842 he had patented nearly 700 acres of land on the south side of Green River, in "Green River Knobs," near "the road leading from Cave City to the Mammoth Cave" (Barren Co. Deeds 2:118, 15:537). By deed dated 21 Apr. 1848 (Somerset Co., Md., Deeds 65:28) Thomas W. Boston and Amelia, his wife, of Barren Co., Ky., sold for $260 land in Somerset Co. bequeathed to them by Amelia's father in 1831. On 15 Apr. 1859 Thomas and Amelia, for the nominal sum of $1, deed to their eldest son, Jesse, 90 acres of land (Barren Co. Deeds Z:600). After her husband's death, Jesse's widow, on 28 Apr. 1866, deeded back to Thomas her share of Jesse's land (Deeds 6:110). Thomas was involved in other sales, with James Doyle (1953), Frank Overstreet (1858), Edward G. Ballen (1860), and Henry M. Dolby and John Jangston (1860) (Barren Co. Deeds V: 258, 1:526, 2:118, 7:502). His name appears in the records for the last time on 28 Apr. 1866. On 9 Sept. 1867 his son and daughter-in-law, John W. and P. F. Boston, sold to Samuel C. Boston part of their right in the land of their deceased father. Other deeds involving settlement of Thomas's estate cover the years 1869-1882 (Barren Co. Deeds 5:624, 7:157, 13:543, 15:537, 16:513, 17:9). On 21 Mar. 1882 (Barren Co. Deeds 17:9) Amelia, Thomas's widow, was still living, for she was among the heirs, who were, in addition, their sons John W., Samuel, W. F., and grandsons Columbus and John (of son Jesse) and James H. Vance (son of Amelia). Children (born Barren Co., Ky., near Cave City): i. Amelia Ann, b. c1820; d. c1838, mar. Thomas W. Vance ii.
