Inscription:
Thomas Blackwood, a native of Ireland, who departed this life September 5th 1836, aged 65 years,
leaving a widow and family to lament their loss the are consoled under full assurance,
that he has gone to enjoy the reward, which has been provided for all, who place their confidence in Him alone,
who can prepare a place in that home, not made with hands eternal in the heaven's.
For many years he presided over the corporation of the Baptist Church,
and also that of the Planter's & Merchant's Bank of this city,
until death put a period to his useful labors and it may truly be said of him,
that he died as he had lived, in the full enjoyment of that character, which he maintained through life, an honest man.
