Thomas Bennett's origins have yet to be established, although the age quoted on his marriage licence implies that he was born around 1730. His first confirmed sighting is on 19th February 1756 when he married Mary Fernihough at Long Bennington in Lincolnshire. He was living at Long Bennington at the time, whilst Mary was living in the nearby village of Bottesford in Leicestershire. Thomas and Mary had one son, also called Thomas, baptised at Long Bennington in 1757. Young Thomas's baptism describes Thomas as being a cooper. The family later left Long Bennington and moved to Bottesford. Mary died in 1788, when she was said to be 56 years old. Thomas survived her by six years. He was buried at Bottesford on 4th July 1794, and was again described as a cooper. He was presumably about 64 years old. References
