The first record we have of Thomas BARTLETT is in the North Farnham Parish Register for the birth of James BARTLETT on 6 Jan 1726 to Thomas and Elizabeth BARTLETT. There is an almost yearly string of records for Thomas BARTLETT over the next 50 years. From his will we know he had surviving children, including sons John, James, Joseph, Thomas and Elisha; and married daughters including Anne (m Charles JONES), Mary (m Thomas SCOTT), Bathsheba (m Charles FONES) and Sarah (m Joseph SCATES). It appears that Elizabeth died in the late 1730s and Thomas married Catherine and had Mary, Bathsheba, Sarah and Elisha by her. Thomas wrote his will in 1767, naming wife Catherine and the nine children, but it appears sons John, Thomas Jr, Joseph and James had already left Richmond Co; Elisha and his four married sisters stayed. There are other records of Thomas into the RevWar timeframe and his Will was finally probated in 1783. We now have matching DNA from three of his sons: John who married Anne SETTLE and moved to Culpeper Co, VA (where his surname became BARTLEY); Thomas who married an Anne and moved to Fauquier Co, VA; and Elisha who stayed in Richmond Co. The DNA of this family is very unusual - it's E1b1b1a2 which most likely means Thomas descended from farmers in England who descended from Balkan militia men, imported to England by the Romans 43-400AD.
