    "Thomas2 Abbott, bp. (Chappel) 1 Sept. 1625, bur. Rowley, Mass., 7 Sept. 1659; m. there, … 13 5m [July] 1655, Dorothy2 Swan, daughter of Richard1 and Ann (_____) Swan. In his will, dated 'last day' 6m [Aug.] 1659 and made at the urging of 'Richard Swan father in Law of Thomas abbott,' he gave his brother George Abbott £10, his brother Nehemiah Abbott £10 'and my devission of land at meremacke,' and his brother Thomas Abbott £5. The rest of his estate was given to his wife. On 5 7m [Sept.] 1659, he added a codicil '[b]efore seuen a clocke in the morneing,' saying that'he had bene perswaded to make his will and he was such extreme pane when he did it soe as he did not consider the thing as he should haue done, and therfor vpon further consideration ther was something in his former will he desired to alter which [was] that haueing giuen his wife his who estat' (after debts and other legacies were paid), he gave the land to 'my brethren in case that my wife die childless, to those brethren that have children or may have children.' '[F]urthermore I giue unto widow Brocklebank and hir sons,' 40s. Both will and codicil were nuncupative. No children, although the codicil seems to consider the possiblity that his wife was pregnant."

    1-1. Thomas (Abbott),2 was paid a bounty for killing five foxes, 1650; was a juror in Ipswich Court, 29 : 1 mo. 1653 [March 29, 1653[; and was paid 'for being a soulger,' 1655 (Rowley R.). He m. 13 : 5 mo. 1655 [July 13, 1655], Dorothy, dau. of Richard Swan, and was bur. 7 Sept. 1659, leaving no issue. His will, dated 5 : 7mo. 1659 [September 5, 1659], mentions father-in-law Richard Swan; brothers George Abbott, Nehemiah Abbott and Thomas Abbott; 'unto widow Brocklebanke and her sons fifty shillings'; wife Dorothy, who is executrix. Value of estate, £234-15s. In a paper on file with the will, entitled 'The Debts of Thomas Abatt,' the last item is as follows:─'It to Thomas Abot brother to the deceased … 5-0-0' (Essex Probate). …"

    Subsequent research has shown him to be not the youngest son but the eldest.
