From Elvin Perkins, Sep 2010: "Mog was the slave of Darian Smith and eventually became his...I guess you would say "common law" wife after the death of his first wife. She served as his housekeeper and nurse. The daughters of Darian and Mog married and lived their lives as white...the sons were still documented as black. Mog herself was likely half black, half white and is listed as"mulatto" or "black" in the census. I've been told by old folks who knew these families that the daughters of Darian were very pretty as young women.
