Funeral will be at 11 a.m. today at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Gallant, for Christine Gilliland, 86, Gallant, who died Thursday, June 15, 2006. The Rev. Glen Stansell will officiate. Burial in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. Morgan Funeral Chapel & Crematory directing.

Mrs. Gilliland was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Before her health declined, she was always very active in church work and teaching Sunday School. She was a member of the Etowah County Homemakers Club and a volunteer for the American Cancer Society. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Owen Gilliland; daughter, Helen Marie Gilliland; parents, B.K. and Grace Walker; son-in-law, Billy Keener; mother-in-law, Opal Gilliland; sister, Shirley McCord; and brothers, Terry (Dora) Walker, Harold Walker and Joe Walker.

She is survived by her children, Linda Keener, Stockbridge, Ga., David (Betty) Gilliland, Altoona, Terry Ann (Ernie) Battles, Altoona, and Kytha (Buster) Dockins, Griffin, Ga.; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, B.K. (Wanda) Walker Jr.; sisters, Lucille McGlaughn, Evelyn Thompson and Betty Campbell; beloved in-laws, Doug McCord, Bud Gilliland, Madge Keener, Margie Conn, Isabelle Shelton, Arvil and Robbie Keener and Benny and Euna Mae Bennett; special friends, Marie Washburn, Teresa Baccus and Jannita Dye; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Pallbearers will be grandsons.

The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to: New Beacon Hospice, Dr. Webb Sledge and his staff, and to the entire staff of Altoona Health and Rehab for their love and care that they gave to our mother.

Visitation was Friday night at Morgan Funeral Chapel. The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. until time of service today at Bethlehem Baptist Church.
