    Rev. Swan Lyman Pomeroy, D.D., died suddenly in Sunderland, Mass., at the residence of his brother, March 17, 1869, aged 70.
    Born in Warwick, Mass., March 4, 1799. Graduated Brown University, 1820; Andover Theological Seminary, 1824; licensed to preach by the North Association of New Haven, Conn., August 17, 1824. Ordained First church, Bangor, August 31, 1825; dismissed, October 5, 1848. Secretary of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions, from September, 1848; resigned, November, 1859. For eight years resided chiefly in Portland. From October, 1866 to 1868, clerk in the "Department of State", Washington, D.C., and supplying the colored Presbyterian church in that city. Trustee in Bangor Theological Seminary, from 1825 to 1849. Sketch by Rev. David Peck, in Congregationalist and Recorder, March 25, 1869; by Dr. D.S. Talcott, Christian Mirror, March 30. Funeral services at Sunderland, Mass., March 18. The remains were deposited at Mt. Hope, Bangor, among his relatives and friends, previous to which services were held in the First Parish church, March 25, in charge of Professors Herrick and Barbour, who were supplying the pulpit. Reported in Bangor Whig, March 26.
