MR SUTTON HANLON
The sudden death of Mr Sutton Hanlon occurred at his home at Narrawong on Wednesday, 4th April, thus removing another of the fast-diminishing band of Pioneers from this district. He had been engaged in digging potatoes near his house in the morning, and on partaking of a hearty meal, resumed his work after dinner. His wife, who had occassion to leave the house, suddenly heard a loud shout in the vicinity of the potato patch, and knowing her husband was subject to sudden attacks of illness, rushed to the spot and found him prostrated on the ground face downwards. On lifting his head she found that life was extinct. The deceased gentleman was 75 years of age, and had resided at Narrawong since 1877. His brother William predeceased him only a short time ago, and it is singularly sad that two of the oldest members of a respected family as the Hanlons are known to be, should pass away within such a short period. He leaves a widow and large family to mourn their loss, to whom the sympathy of a large circle of friends is extended. The funeral took place on Friday. The remains were interred in the Portland Cemetery, the large number in attendance bearing eloquent testimony to the esteem in which the late Mr Hanlon was held. An enquiry into the cause of death was held before Mr J Wittshire, Deputy Coroner. After evidence by relatives and others present at the time, a verdict was recorded, in accordance with Dr Sleeman's opinion that death was due to heart failure, consequent upon cardio vascular disease.
