GYPSIES BRING BODY HERE FOR INTERMENT: Remains of Mrs. Stoyker Ely Will Be Place in a Vault Until Spring.
Coming to Dayton with the body of their wife and mother for burial, Frank Ely and his band of five gypsy followers arrived Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock from Livingston, Tennessee.
The mother, Stoyker Ely, died in the gypsy camp near there Friday at 4 o'clock of injuries sustained three or four days ago when one of their wagons was accidentally overturned. She suffered internal injuries, which caused her death.
The body is now at the Frank Reisinger chapel, 1856 West Third street.
Following the peculiar custom of the gypsy tribe, it is likely that the body of the woman will be placed in a vault until spring. Early in the year, all the members of the tribe return to Dayton for a burial service in honor of those who have died during the year. Following an impressive tribal ceremony, the bodies of all the dead are then given to earth.
The gypsy band roams the country the entire year. The winter months are spent in the southland. Following the disposition of the body of the woman brought here, the members of the band will return to Tennessee.
