“The petition for an act of incorporation of the town of Bradford was dated 30 May 1787 and Stehphen was one of the twenty signers [NHPapers11:220]. He appeared on the Bradford tax inventory book in 1794 and in the Bradford records in 1795 when he was elected a surveyor of highways [BVR1:40]. Stephen Ward was witness to a deed for Bradford land in 1784 [HillsDeeds16:311] {in 1800 he was of Bradford, a gentleman when he sold Bradford land to Willard Newton gentleman of Southborough Mass [Ibid51:161] He was first called Lt. Ward in 1803. In 1805 he was a gentleman of Bradford when he bought Bradford land of John Maynard of Marlborough Mass; one witnesswas Ebenezer Ward [Ibid 132:23]. In 1821 Betsey was of Bradford when she made her mark on a deed with her husband selling land to Joshua Darling of Henniker [Ibid 32:25]. A female aged 50-60 was in their household in 1840.}”
