6 … Stephen (Gifford), b. 28 Aug. 1679; d. in 1772. This is the Stephen who for many years was known as 'Senior.' His will, made 22 Aug. 1758, proved 28 May 1772, named his sister Ruth Fitch; kinsman Gideon Fitch; kinsman Stephen 'son of John Gifford y^e younger of Norwich Deceast'; kinswoman Ede, 'daughter of John Gifford the younger of Norwich Deceast'; kinsman and kinswoman Sam^ll: Gifford and Martha his wife; kinsfolk John and Martha, children of Jeremiah Center and Elisabeth his wife; and referred to 'land set to me' in my brother Aquila's estate, as well as to 'land westward from the Dwelling House that was my brother Johns Deceas^t' [Norwich Probate Files, No. 4446]."
