- ↑ Birth before 1714 to be of legal age when married in 1735. Often confused with Stephen, s/o James Cobb and Elizabeth Hallett, b. Barnstable 1716, but not him. Perhaps related to the Edward Cobb of Walpole who m. in Boston 1735 Hannah Allen, and like Stephen, had children born in Medway, then apparently moved to Grafton, MA.
- ↑ In TAG, Vol. 38, p. 76, in an article by Mrs. John E. Barclay, "Origin of Rev. Ebenezer Hinds of Bridgewater, Mass.", say Stephen Cobb m. (2) (int.) 28 Sep 1754 Mary Foster, implying wife Abigail died and he was alive. There is such an intention in Walpole records, and since Stephen was of Walpole 19 years earlier when he married the first time, this probably confused the author. However, the man in the intention is called "of Stoughton" and an intention is also found in Stoughton. So it appears to be a different man. Stephen Cobb of Holliston died in 1754, there being a record of his death, and ironically it was his widow Abigail who remarried in 1754, and this is confirmed by his probate file.
