Sophrona "Ann" Burns, age 77, of Fremont, NE, died Monday, August 29, 2011 at A.J. Merrick Manor in Fremont.
She was born October 16, 1933 to Clark and Hazel (Morrison) Davis at their home in rural Herman, NE. She graduated from Fremont High School in 1950 and attended Omaha Normal College. She married Virgil A. Burns March 20, 1953 at the Broadway Methodist Church in Council Bluffs, IA. Virgil died July 14, 1996.
Ann worked at Mutual of Omaha from 1950 to 1954, U.S. Fidelity Guarantee Co. 1955-1956 and Ann and Virgil owned and operated H Street Grocery Store for 16 years from 1959-1975. She was a 4-H Volunteer. For a brief time she worked at Brestwood Inn, and then Alco Discount Store 1980-1992 and finally for Metz Baking 1992-2004 before retiring.
Survivors include: sons – Jerry and wife Denise Burns of Fremont, NE and Larry and wife Patti Burns of Omaha, NE; daughter – Patricia "Patti" and husband Duane Haberberger of Fremont, NE; 5 grandchildren – Stephen and wife Erica Bartels, Linda and husband Wyatt Swartz, Lisa Haberberger, Robert E. Busson III, and Grace Burns; 2 great grandchildren – Hayden Bartels and Shelby Ann Bartels; special friend – Jimmie Fox; and several close cousins.
She is preceded in death by: parents; and husband, Virgil.
Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M., Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont, NE. The Rev. Dr. N. Dwain Acker will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday 3-8 P.M. with family receiving friends 5-7 P.M. at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery, Fremont, NE.
