    Simon Sprowls obituary, Waynesburg Republican, Waynesburg (Greene County), Pennsylvania, 17 March, 1904

    The death of Simon Sprowls occurred at his home in East Finley township, near Simpson's Store, about 10 o'clock on Sunday evening, March 6th, 1904, aged 59 years. The deceased was a son of the late William and Polly Newland Sprowls. He was married to Jane Wise, who with eleven of the twelve children born to them survive, namely; Mrs. M. J. Flynn, of Claysville; Mrs. M. E. Ealy, of Burnsville; Mrs. S. A. Dague, of East Finley; Mrs. Frank Barker, of Simpson's Store; Mrs. (sic) Thomas B. Sprowls, of Eno (sic); Mrs. Ella Shaw, at home; Jacob Sprowls, of Claysville; Fred and Misses Nannie, Essie and Alta, at home. One daughter, Vina, is dead. One brother of the decease (sic) - David Sprowls - survives. He was an excellent citizen and highly respected in the community. He was a member of the Valley M. E. church. The funeral service was held at ten o'clock Wednesday forenoon, a brief service being held at his late home, and further service in the Fairmount U. B. church, which was well filled. His pastor, Rev. Westfall, presided, assisted by Rev. Joseph Shower. Interment in Fairmount cemetery. - Claysville Recorder.
