BEAL, Simon J.

State Police today terminated an investigation into the death of Simon J. Beal, 73, Oldtown Road, who appeared to have been attacked before he was admitted Sunday at Sacred Heart Hospital for immediate surgery. Beal, a retired coal miner, died yesterday at 4:50 p.m. Dr. H. V. Deming, deputy county medical examiner, attributed the man's death to peritonitis due to a perforated intestine. He said there was no reason to assume that Beal's death was anything other than natural. State Police Criminal Investigaor William F. Baker reported there was no evidence of foul play although the man had a superficial cut over an eye. Beal went to the hospital Sunday to undergo a hernia operation. Investigation disclosed that Beal had been involved in a scuffle about a week ago in Mt. Savage, but an autopsy showed no indication he had been struck in the abdomen. A native of Meyersdale, Beal was born February 12, 1879, a son of the late S. J. Beal and Lavina Hutzell Beal. His first wife, Mrs. Amelia Kreitzburger Beal, preceded him in death.
