   Not much is known about Silas. Unproven information says he was born in Scotland. He married Hannah Griffith, also unproven, daughter of Mathew Griffith and Lucrecia Reese, probably about 1755. An 1803 deed seems to indicate that he died about that time, and his children inherited some land he owned in Botetourt County, near Roanoke. He had the land surveyed in 1775 and paid for it in 1794. We can surmise that he lived in Botetourt County from 1775 until the time of his death. The deed lists the names of his grown children and their spouses.
