    (Taken from the Harwich, MA, Independent)
    Died in Benzonia, Michigan, Jan. 7th 1915, Shadrach Small, aged 80 years, 3 months and 19 days, eldest son of the late Shadrach and Rhoda Small of South Harwich.
    Capt. Small was twice married, his first wife being Betsey J., who died June 30, 1864, daughter of Oliver Nickerson of Chatham, who after her parents died lived with Capt. Zebina Small of Harwich, she being a neice of Mrs. Small whom he married in 1857, who bore him a son and daughter, Josie B. and Ephraim, who survive him. On Oct. 2, 1864 her married Angie E. Hill, a Michigan lady, to whom was born eight children, three of whom survive him.
    Capt. Small went to sea in early life, went up the rounds of the ladder until he became master, his last vessel being built for him and named for his eldest daughter, Josephine B. Small. After marrying his second wife in war time he gave up going to sea and made his home in Michigan, finally settling down to fruit farming.
    He has two brothers living, R.H. Small and T.E. Small residing in So. Harwich.
