SEVERINO RALPH GARCIA
November 8, 1915 - May 19, 2012
Severino Ralph Garcia, age 96, beloved husband, devoted father, loving grandfather, great grandfather, great great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Born in Heber, CA on November 8, 1915, he was the eldest of 13 children born to Jose Cruz Garcia and Maria Antonia Garcia. Ralph married his sweetheart, Mildred Frances Gallego on May 21, 1937. They were still going strong into their 75th year of marriage when he peacefully entered into rest on May 19, 2012, surrounded by his family. He joins his precious daughter, Racheal Ventimiglia (Jack) in God's care.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred; daughters, Barbara Guerrero (Ben), Irene Berbina (Felix); and sons, Ralph Garcia, Jr. (Diane), Bill Garcia (Cindy); along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In his younger years, Ralph worked many jobs, until his employment with Tillie Lewis Foods, where he retired after 44 years. Ralph also owned his own trucking company for 24 years.
Golf was his favorite pastime throughout his life. He was a caddy at age 13 at Stockton Golf & Country Club. He was one of the founding members of the Mexican American Golf Association, a member of NCGA, and USGA. He started many golfers in the game. Ralph was always willing to offer advice on how to improve your golf swing. In his retirement years he lived his passion for the game by managing Poquito Lake Golf Course for his son Bill.
As the patriarch of the family, Ralph will be sorely missed at this years 51st Annual Garcia Family Golf Tournament. Many people in his neighborhood and community will always remember his warm smile and how he was always happy to stop and chat about their day. Visitors were always welcome at "Grandpa's" house. Seeing him working on his beautifully landscaped yard was a familiar sight, even just a few weeks ago. He loved sitting out front with his darling wife and relaxing. The love of his family was his greatest joy in this life. His only last request was for his sons to "take care of mother."
