Seth Copeland, son of John Copeland and Ruth his wife was borne 22 January 1697/8.

Will of "Seth Copeland of Braintree ... Yeoman, Being advanced in years & under indisposition of Body", dated 1't Dec 1774, proved 14 Oct 1776 "the executor being deceased", names Kingsman [sic, kinsman] Sam: Copland soon of my Brother Sam'l deceased; Kingsman Hanah White Daughter of my s'd Brother dec'd; Kingsman Seth Wild Son of my late Sister Bethiah Wild dec'd; Kingsman Isaac Copeland Son of my s'd Brother Sam'l deceased; Kingsman Isaac Seth Copeland Son of my Brother Sam'l dec'd; my daughter Rebecca Arnold in consideration fo the benefits and kindness I receive from her Mother my late Dear Wife deceased; Abigail Copeland Daughter of the aforesaid Isaac Copeland; Lydia Daughter of the aforesaid Seth Copeland; Hanah Tirrell the Child that is now with me with interest to be paid when she shall arive at eighteen. Friend Elisha Niles Esq'r of Breatree to be executor.
14 Oct 1776: Letters of administration cum Testamento annexo granted to Eben'r Thayer of Braintree Gent'l on estate of Seth Copeland late of Braintree Yeoman deceased.

[Note: The will abstracted above is a key piece of evidence in showing Seth's widow did not marry Henry Kingman, as Seth was clearly living when that marriage occurred. (It was a different Abigail Copeland and there is a detailed discussion on her page.) Note that Seth's mention of a daughter Rebecca Arnold is referring to a step-daughter. Seth Copeland of Braintree m. Rebecca Josselyn 1763, the widow of Abraham Josselyn, and the Rebecca Joslyne who married William Arnold was the daughter of Abraham and Rebecca.]

Vol. 78, p. 174 16 Apr 1721: Thomas Holbrook and Ruth his Wife of Braintree for divers good causes and consideration quitclaim to Seth Copeland Mary Copeland his Wife and Hannah Holbrook the estate of our father Thomas Holbrook late of Braintree. Acknowledged 7 May 1750.

Vol. 53, folio 133 reverse 24 Apr 1727: Seth Copeland and Mary his wife of Brantry for £70 to Thomas Vinton of Brantry 130 acres.

Vol. 78, p. 131 16 Apr 1729: Seth Copeland Mary Copeland [later reference adds "his Wife"] and Hannah Holbrook of Braintree for divers good causes and Considerations quitclaim unto Thomas Holbrook all rights in housing and farm land and meadow of our Grandfather Thomas Holbrook late of Braintree deced. Acknowledged by Seth Copland 7 May 1750. Witness Ephraim Thayer made oath that he saw Mary Copeland sign deed.

Vol. 124, folio 26 reverse 5 Mar 1734/35: Seth Copland of Braintree for £170 to Benjamin Thayer of Braintree Yeoman a tract of land about 1 acre in the middle Precinct of Braintree. Signed by Seth Copeland and Abigail Copeland. "Abigail Copeland the Wife of the abovesaid Seth Copeland in manifestation of her Concurrance of the abovesaid proceed hath hereunto set her hand & Seal." Acknowledged by Seth Copland 2 Jun 1773.

Vol. 126, folio 194 25 Feb 1774: Seth Copeland of Braintree Yeoman for £46=13=4 to William Arnold of Braintree Mariner the West part of my mansion or dwelling house with a small peice of land adjoining. Acknowledged 7 Mar 1774.
