Dena was the family scholar and she was another redhead. She came to Woodland as a baby. She graduated from High School at Snowflake Stake Academy and then continued on at the Normal School in Flagstaff, wehre she received a certificate to teach. After teaching four years in Lakeside, Dena married John Sheehan, of Flagstaff, and they later moved to Phoenix where she taught at the crippled children's hospital for fourteen years.
