    'Joseph and Sarah were originally buried in "The Old Burying Grounds" in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey. The epitaphs from their headstones were recorded by The New Jersey Historical Society in 1847, and read:

    Here was Layed ye Body of Sarah wife of Joseph Rigges
    Dec'd June ye 17th 1735 in ye 52 years of her age

    Here lyes ye Body of Joseph Riggs
    Dec'd Sept. ye 11th 1744 in ye 69th year of his age'
