Some researchers believe Sarah's relationship with Littleberry Leftwich was of "common law" and not of marriage, as such, Sarah was named in Littleberry Leftwich's will, as follows:
- Item 2nd I will and devise to the children of Sally REESE which may now exists the tract of Land, on which she now lives on, lying on Wolf Creek, containing one Hundred and ninety odd acres, reserving to the said Sally REESE the right of living thereon with the free privilege of clearing and cultivating the land with the use of the timber thereof in any way she may think proper especially for her own use and benefit only as long as she may continue to live on the land herself and no longer; and I do further hereby release the said Sally from any claims that may be now due me or in any manner coming to me from her.
