Several sources, e.g., Source:Cutter, William Richard. Historic Homes and Places and Genealogical and Personal Memoirs Relating to the Families of Middlesex County, Massachusetts, Vol. 4, p. 1994, identify the wife of Noah Carpenter as Sarah Johnson, d/o Matthew. This is easily shown to be wrong. The probate of Matthew Johnson [Middlesex Probate 12726] contains a note which states that "Sarah y't Maryed Daniell Read being dead her s'd husband only signes ye Receit". The receipt is dated 13 May 1704, signed by Daniel Reed, that "Woburn - in the year 1696 Sarah Johnson Recived of my her Hon'rd father's Exec'trs in part of her portion in movables ... and allso in lands ... in may ye 13th 1704 I daniel Reed doe own that my deceased wife Sarah Johnson hath received this above mentioned sum." In addition, the birth date does not align with the age at death of the wife of Noah Carpenter (46 in 1726).
