    Sally's parents were Johannes Peter, Sr. and Mary Polly Anderson Smith Dingess. Her father, Peter Dingess, was a soldier in the Revolution and came to Giles County from Montgomery County, Virginia.

    Sally was 24 years old when she married John P. McClaugherty on 12 Aug 1813 in Giles County, Virginia. He was the son of James McClaugherty and Agnes McGarre. He was born 21 Aug 1782 in Ireland, and died 29 Aug 1872 in Giles County, Virginia.

    They were the parents of three children:

    1. James Floyd McClaugherty (1814- )married Martha Ann Cunningham (01 Jul 1818-30 Dec 1884) on 31 Jan 1839 in Giles County, Virginia. They were the parents of at least three sons: John, George and Robert McClaugherty.

    2. Magdalene Campbell Mcclaugherty (13 Aug 1817-01 Mar 1860)married George Harvison Walker (16 Apr 1813-22 Jul 1881)on 22 Oct 1835 in Giles County, Virginia. They were the parents of seven children: Mary Jane, Sarah Frances,Martha Ann, John Floyd, George Thomas, Ellen Lewis McGarre and Annie Walton Dingess Walker.

    3. Mary Smith McClaugherty (1818- )married Lewis Alexander Shanklin.

    Sally Dingess McClaugherty died on Saturday morning, February 17, 1821 at less than 32 years according to the family Bible. She is buried near her parents.
