Sarah Elizabeth could be a daughter of Benjamin Comegys UC 14, Francis Comegys UC 15, Cornelius Comegys UC 16 or John Comegys UC 17. Previously, her parent had arbitrarly been assumed to be Benjamin Comegys UC 14. Recent information however, has reviled that both Mary Smith wife of Cornelius Comegys UC 16 and Priscilla Wroth wife of Jesse Comegys UC 13 are buried adjacent to her. In his will Jesse Comegys referred to Sarah Elizabeth Comegys as his niece. Priscilla Wroth had been married first to a William Smith possibly related to Mary Smith. It is more probable that Cornelius Comegys and his wife Mary Smith are the parents of Sarah Elizabeth Comegys rather than Benjamin Comegys. Poeter says this person is a daughter of William Carnegy and Betsey Powers which is unlikely. William, of Frederick County VA, always gave his surname as Carnegy or Carnagy which is possibly a misspelling Carnegie not Comegys and his will mentions many relatives but doesn't indicate he had any children. William Comegys, the brother to Jesse, uncle of Sarah Elizabeth Comegys, was a minor in Kent County MD when William Carnegy and Betsey Powers of Frederick County VA were inheriting land in VA. It is also unlikely that William and Betsey were the parents of Jesse and William the coachmaker as William Carnegy of Frederick County was alive in Frederick County long after Elizabeth, presumably a widow, and mother of William approved his apprenticeship in Kent County MD.
