Sarah Ann Cloutman was born on 27th May 1864 at Plymouth in Devon, daughter of a dressmaker called Elizabeth Cloutman, formerly Cross, and her husband Thomas Henry Cloutman, a butcher. Sarah appears in the 1871 census living with her parents and sister at 18 Mutley Plain in Plymouth. By 1881 the family was living at 15 Park Street, and Sarah was working as a dressmaker.

On 13th November 1883, Sarah married a plasterer called William Richard Harry. They do not appear to have had any children. The 1891 census finds Sarah living alone in Plymouth.

Clearly Sarah and William separated, as in 1898 Sarah married again claiming to be a widow, despite the fact that William was still alive and would remarry that same year. Sarah's second husband was a soldier called William Bigg Boutwood, who was originally from Luton in Bedfordshire.

Sarah has not been found in either the 1901 or 1911 censuses, although William was an officer of the Paddington Workhouse in London in 1911. By 1919 they had moved to Grimsby in Lincolnshire, where they are listed together in the electoral registers at 34 Crescent Street from 1919 to 1925. Sarah died in 1927, aged 62. William outlived her by four years.
