Sarah Cain was baptised on 24th October 1790 at St Paul's Walden in Hertfordshire, daughter of Sarah Cain formerly Archer and her husband John Cain.

On 14th September 1811, aged twenty, Sarah married a labourer called George Goodship. They appear to have gone on to have six children baptised at St Paul's Walden between 1811 and 1830.

Sarah's father died in 1832. The following year, Sarah's husband died, aged 53.

Sarah appears in the 1841 census with her three youngest children living in Whitwell, the largest village in St Paul's Walden parish. She was working as a straw plaiter.

Sarah's mother died in 1844.

Sarah died in 1848, aged 57. She was buried at St Paul's Walden on 5th March 1848.
