George Goodship was baptised on 2nd April 1780 at St Paul's Walden in Hertfordshire, son of John and Jane Goodship.

He was married on 14th September 1811, aged 31, to Sarah Cain. His marriage record describes him as a labourer. They appear to have gone on to have six children baptised at St Paul's Walden between 1811 and 1830.

George died in 1833, being buried at St Paul's Walden on 15th May 1833. He was 53 years old. His burial records that he had lived in Whitwell, the largest village in the parish. Sarah survived him by about fifteen years.
