"On June 30, 1762, Parson Conant recorded his intention of marriage to Sarah Bethune, sister of his classmate George. On her death, on August 30, 1771, a newspaper declared:

If unaffected Devotion to the Supreme Being, simplicity of Manners, — conjugal Affection, — a punctual Observance of the relative Obligations, — Charity to Distress, — meekness of Temper, — sincerity in Friendship, and universal Benevolence, — if those amiable Qualities, which united in Mrs. Conant, are Objects of Approbation and Ornamental to human Nature, the distressed Object, the Friend, the Relative, and the tender Husband will not very soon forget Virtues of so high Estimation in the various Departments of Life."
