Sarah Ann Bavister was baptised on 8th December 1839 at Harlington in Bedfordshire, daughter of Mary Bavister, formerly Hurst, and her husband James Bavister. James appears to have died shortly before Sarah was born; he was buried at Harlington on 10th September 1839, aged 31. Sarah appears in the 1841 and 1851 censuses living with her mother and siblings in Harlington.
On 3rd November 1856, Sarah was married in the nearby town of Luton to a straw hat blocker called James Marshall. They had three children between 1857 and 1867, and lived at various addresses in Luton. Sarah also worked in the straw hat trade, being described as a straw hat sewer.
James died in 1886, aged 52. Sarah appears in the 1891 census living in three rooms at 5 Gloucester Road in Luton with two of her children. She died in 1892, aged either 52 or 53.
