Samuel Tatem purchased 50 acres near Flushing in Nov 1688. The author suggests Samuel's choice of Patience and Ruth as daughters' names is part of the reason for thinking he is a son of Nehemiah Tatem and Patience Bullock. He is known to be a brother of John Tatem of New Jersey from a letter of Jonathan Dickinson to an acquaintance on Bermuda dated 12 Nov 1719 (p. 47-8).
