a slip of paper "yellow with age" found in the papers of Dr. Egle states:
"Samuel Sturgeon, a native of the north of Ireland, born about 1680, came to America with his family in 1730 and located in Paxtang township. He died about 1740, leaving among other children ... Henry ... ; Jeremiah ... ; Samuel ... ; Sarah ... ; and Thomas ... ."
McCoy was inclined to accept this statement (although he was otherwise critical of a number of Dr. Egle's statements), feeling that it came from "some person who had positive knowledge". On page 61, McCoy describes research that supports the arrival of a Sturgeon in Lancaster County about 1730.
