"Samuel Parish (John1), born probably in Mendon, Mass.; died May 13, 1735 in Norwich, Conn.; married May 24, 1699, Marcy Madiver, born August 12, 1677 in Boston, died June 13, 1725, daughter of Joel and Rebecca. Samuel apparently followed closely in the footsteps of his father, for in 1698/9 and 1700 his name appears in the Church Records at Essex, Mass., then Chebacco Parish, and later, after his father went Stonington, Conn., he was admitted an inhabitant of Norwich, Conn., in 1716. On April 18, 1719 and again on April 28, 1719, he bought land there, situated on the west side of the Quinnebaug River, and made it the homestead. In a quitclaim deed after his death, his children Joel, Solomon, Nathaniel and Mary Parish, relinquished this same tract to 'our Brother Samuel Parish,' June 9, 1735, the others, Nehemiah and Rebecca, not being of age at that date."
