"Samuel (4), son of Samuel (3) Lewis, was born June 1, 1748, in Waterbury, and resided in what is now the town of Plymouth, near the meeting house. According to the records of Waterbury, he married Sarah Curtis and had three children born in that town. The family records show that he had a wife, Rebecca Putnam, and the family tradition states that she was a sister of General Israel Putnam. The latter had no sister by that name and none who married a Lewis, in fact he had no sister young enough to marry this Lewis."
