In Nile, NY, Jan. 17th, of a disease of the lungs, Samuel Lanphear, aged 76 years. He emigrated from Rhode Island in 1819, being the first to remove to Alfred fron Westerly. He made a profession of religion in early life and manifested an unshaken faith in Christ to the time of his death. He left a large family (to which he was strongly attached) with a resignation expressed in the text used at his funeral - "The will of the Lord be done." His last wish was gratified - only a few hours before he died, his son Ethan returned from a traveling tour; with him he enjoyed a free and interesting conversation, and then quietly expired. J.C.W.
