Funeral services were conducted Sunday morning for Mr. Sam T King of Buena Vista, who after a long illness died Saturday in the Houston Hospital. The rites were said by the Rev. H M Collins at the home and burial was in the Houston Cemetery by the side of his wife, Mrs. Leona Kimball King.
Mr. King was born near Buena Vista and spent his entire life in that vacinity. About 40 years ago he was married to Miss Lee Thompson, who died a few years later, leaving two small children. Later, Mr. King was married to Miss Leona Kimball, whose death occurred about two years ago.
Mr. King was a member of a pioneer family. He was a prominent merchant and planter and also served as postmaster at Buena Vista for many years. He was a Mason, a member of the Baptist Church and a gentleman of the highest type.
Mr. King is survived by five daughters, two sons,Mrs. Ellie Glass of Alabama and Prof. Howard King of Moorhead, buy his first marriage; Mrs. Hanson Murphy, Coffeeville; Mrs. C A Osbeck, Erie Pa.; Mrs. Elkin Jack, Madisonville, Tenn.; Miss Frances King, Charleston; and Sam King of Buena Vista and three brothers.
