Immediately after his marriage Samuel Keep settled on his farm in Longmeadow, but in the following December occurred a great flood which practically destroyed the settlement in the valley and with the other settlers there he removed to the hill, the present location of the town of Longmeadow. He was active at all times in the affairs of the town (or precinct, as Longmeadow was not incorporated as a town until after his death). He was selectman (or Committee of the Precinct) in 1715, 1716, 1720, 1722 and 1724. …
In September, 1700, with twenty others he petitioned the General Court for a new town to be laid out east of Springfield—Brimfield. His son John settled in that town and in 1730 Samuel Keep was finally allotted one hundred and twenty acres of land there in consideration of twelve pounds ten shillings which he had paid for the benefit of the town of Brimfield. Samuel Keep and his wife Sarah lived together almost sixty years, she dying June 20, 1754. He died August 23, 1755.
