  2. The birth estimate about 1694 is based on the order named in his father's will, between Nathaniel and Isaac (see MD, p. 19:130). The birth place is probably Duxbury as the older children are recorded in Duxbury and in 1699 Josiah Kean Sen of Duxbury executes a deed of gift to his "Son Josiah Kean of Duxburough" (Plymouth deed Vol. 3, p. 181).
  3. The will of Samuel's wife Ruth's mother Grace named only the first 6 children as her grandchildren even though Samuel had 10 children prior to its writing. That plus the marriage record to Margaret Redding, and naming of his widow Margaret as administrator of his estate shows he had a second wife. The 5-year gap in children just happens to follow the last child named by the grandmother's will and precedes the marriage to Margaret. So it is clear that the last four children belong to Margaret, but are attributed to Ruth in the Pembroke VRs based on by PR182: "From an ancient Keene record now [1911] in the possession of Miss Minnie Keene Bachelder of Plymouth". This record clearly did not record the second marriage and so the children have been attributed to the wrong mother. Further evidence may be found in the will of Judath Keen (Plymouth Probate Vol. 19, p. 327), which names mother Margaret, siblings Ruth, Asher and Moses, and makes uncle Isaac Keen executor..
