(III) Samuel G., son of James M. and Elizabeth Catherine (Lovett) Hall, was born in Lewis county, West Virginia, June 4, 1866. He received a common school education. He embarked in the duties of a busy life for himself as a farmer and stock raiser, and has made a success of his undertakings. He conducted a general store at Lightburn, Lewis county, for seven years. Among the substantial citizens of Lewis county none stand higher in point of integrity and business qualifications than Mr. Hall. On October 2, 1911, the People's Bank of Janelew was opened for business ; this house was organized by a few of the leading business men of the community, and Mr. Hall had the honor of being appointed president of the institution. It had a capital of $35,000, but this was increased to $60,000 ; it now has one hundred and ten shareholders ; the cashier of the bank is G.B. Waggoner. Mr. Hall is a Republican in politics, and a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, having passed through all the chairs in his lodge.
Mr. Hall married Emma, daughter of M.B. and Eliza Ann Fisher. Children: Bertha Helena, born August 17, 1885 (Mrs. J.P. Nay, of Janelew, West Virginia) ; Ethel Virginia, born March 3, 1888 (Mrs. Dr. T.F. Law, of Janelew, West Virginia) ; Harvey Spurgeon, born November 3, 1891, at home. The family attends the Methodist Episcopal church. Mrs. Hall died May 19, 1910, and her remains were interred at Lightburn, West Virginia. ...
