No, he married Elizabeth Knowles of Eastham and Chatham, Connecticut.

"That Mr. Jacobus was, as was to be expected, quite right in stating the maiden name as Knowles, will be seen from the estate of Samuel Freeman of Middletown, who died 5 May 1749 (Manwaring 3:551). Administration was granted 6 June 1749 to the widow, Elizabeth Freeman, Cornelius Knowles [her father], bondsman. In an account dated 1 May 1753 there is a distribution: to James Freeman, eldest son, Gideon Freeman and Elizabeth Snow, Alice Brown, Rebekah Walker, Mary Freeman, Priscilla Freeman and Abigail Freeman, children of sd deceased, most of which children, if not all, must have been by an earlier wife." NOTE: They were his siblings, not his children.

  4. Samuel Freeman, in Find A Grave.

As of 30 January 2024, this memorial is a mess. The man who was buried at East Hampton, (then part of Middletown, CT), was the Samuel, son of Samuel and Mary (Paine) Freeman, of Eastham, MA, born 16 Aug 1716 and married (briefly) to Elizabeth, daughter of Cornelius Knowles of Eastham and East Hampton. The Milford Samuel was born 1 Dec 1662, son of Stephen and Esther (Astwood) Freeman of Milford; he subsequently removed to New Jersey. As far as I can determine, the date and place of his death is unknown.

The abstract of the probate of the man who died in 1749 identifies, as his children, nine members of the family of Samuel and Mary (Paine) Freeman. The are, in fact, his siblings as can be confirmed by the sequence of names in the abstract (Gideon is an error for Barnabas, the youngest brother) and the married names of three of the sisters. Since this Samuel was only married for about three months before his death in 1749, I suspect that this part of the probate is mixed up with that of the father Samuel who died at Eastham in 1751.

"Freeman, Samuel, died May 5, 1749 age 38" NOTE: Probably a misreading of "33" which is consistent with a 1716 date of birth.
