"3. Lieut. Samuel3 Frary (Eleazar2 John1), born at Hatfield, Mass., 15 Apr. 1674, died at Middletown (Cromwell), Conn., 1 Aug. 1762, in his 89th
year (gravestone); … Samuel Frary was made Ensign of the north company in Middletown, May 1719, and Lieutenant of the same company, May 1725. …
His will, dated 11 Apr. 1761, proved 13 Sept. 1762, gave to his son, Joseph Frary, all lands in Middletown, 'my Husbandry & turning Tools & utensils … my Negro woman named Pegg with her two Daughters Rhoda & Tammy … I give and Bequeath unto my Loving Daughter Sarah Hale her Heirs & Assigns forever all the Rest & Residue of my Goods Chattels, & personal Estate whatsoever and wheresoever.' Son Joseph to be executor. Witnesses: Edward Eells, Nathll Chauncey, Ebenezer Backus.
The inventory of the estate of Mr. Samuel Frary, taken 16 Sept. 1762, is not totaled. The first item is 'one bareskin Cote,' sixteen shillings. The 'Negro peg' was valued at £20; the 'Negro girl Rhode' at £45; there was also a negro boy, £20, and 'one negro Child a girl,' £7. The real estate consisted of 2¾ acres with the warehouse, £110; 28 acres at the plains, £56; 3¾ acres at Sidon Hill, 3 acres of land at 'Goosedelight,' and 2 acres of 'bogemeadow land.' There was a Bible and a number of sermon books.
Presumably Mr. Frary made prenuptial contracts with his later wives, which explains the failure to mention the last wife who, nevertheless, survived him."
