"Lt. Samuel Eells s of Samuel of Dorchester, Mass. was born 1639/40, baptized Dorchester, Mass. 3 May 1640 and died Hingham, Mass. 21 April 1709 (Eells gen). He married/1 Lynn, Mass. 5 (or 1) August 1663 (Milford Vital Records) Anna Lenthall who died February 1687 dau of Robert. He married/2 22 August 1689 widow Sarah (Bateman) North (Eells gen) who died Scituate, Mass. 9 February 1717. He was admitted to church in Milford 10 July 1670. An after planter came to Milford 1668 (ES). His will presented for probate 15 June 1713. He removed to Hingham, Mass. after death of his first wife. In Milford he was town clerk, on committee to revise town records. Custom master for New Haven County, deputy to General Court Assembly for 12 sessions. Sgt 1676, Lt 1683 and Capt of the trained band. He was granted 200 acres of land for service in King Phillip's War. He deeded his home lot on Wharf Street to his 2nd wife."

"Major Samuel Eells … was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts May 1, 1640 (others say January 23, 1639), and baptized 3 May 1640 by Reverend Richard Mather. The original record of baptism is from the records of the church at Dorchester, and reads as follows: 'Samuel Eells, his father being a member of the church of Windsor, was by communion of the churches baptized 5 [3] Mo. 3th, anno 1640.' "
