Samuel Davis, s/o Samuel Davis and Mary Rich, b. Oxford 13 Nov 1772, d. Eddington, ME, 4 Sep 1853, m. 1 Mar 1803 Tamar Putnam of Sutton.
Davis gives only the one marriage for Samuel, when he was age 31. However, a marriage in Oxford is unaccounted for. On 19 Apr 1797, a Samuel Davis Jr. and Ruth Lampson (d/o Ebenezer Lamson and Ruth Phillips of Charlton, b. 6 Nov 1775) married, and the unfortunate Ruth d. 3 months later, on 28 Jul 1797. At first glance, Samuel Jr. should be the Samuel who was born 1761, s/o Joseph, but that Samuel married Silence Jewett and they were both still married and living in Dudley. That, plus this Samuel's age being 3 years older than Ruth, suggests that it was indeed this Samuel.
