    Married Edrea Hurlbut, dau. of Thomas, 2d, and with her and her brothers and sisters conveyed rights in Woodbury inherited from her father. Doubtless she was the young widow of Benjamin Gilbert when she m. Couch. Born about 1674, she d. 24 Nov. 1737 ae. 63 (g. s., Westport). Edra, wife of Samuel, renewed Covenant at Fairfield Church, 3 May 1696. At bapt. of children 1711 to 1715, Samuel was called Capt.

    Will 12 May 1739, proved 3 Dec. 1739; advanced in years; legacies to sons Samuel, Benjamin, John (at College, to have out of his estate education for four years), and Ebenezer; daus. Eunice wife of Reuben Taylor and Abigail Couch; gr. son Joseph Jackson; residue equally to children, Samuel, Benjamin, Ebenezer, and Solomon Couch, Mary Couch, Edry Frost, Eunice Taylor, Elizabeth Todd, and Abigail Couch.

    Samuel, Benjamin, Ebenezer, and Solomon Couch, Joseph Crane and wife Mary, Joseph Frost and wife Adra, Nathaniel Hibbard and wife Abigail, all of Fairfield, Reuben Taylor and wife Eunice of Norwalk, and Rev. Jonathan Todd and wife Elizabeth of Guilford, conveyed 15 June 1741 to brother John Couch of Fairfield, land in Redding."

    This is not where one would expect to find him buried. However, this burial is next to that of his daughter Elizabeth and her husband, Rev. Jonathan Todd. The inscription, as read for the Hale Collection, is consistent with his dying between 12 May and 3 December 1739. Possibly he died on a visit to his daughter (and also his granddaughter, Abigail (Crane) Todd, wife of Jonathan's brother Timothy).
