- Samuel Clapp of Dorchester was the eldest son of Roger Clapp, and was born 11 Oct 1634. He married Hannah Leeds the only daughter of Richard Leeds on 18 Nov 1659. They had the following children: Samuel b. 22 Feb 1662 died at 6 years old, John b. 16 Jun 1664 died at 1 year old, Hannah b. 28 Sep 1666 died at 12 years old, Samuel b. 6 Aug 1668 a Lieutenant who died 30 Jan 1725, Experience b. 8 Jul 1670 died at 1 year old, Unite b. 6 Dec 1672 died at 2 years old, Return b. 11 May 1675 died at 1 year old, John b. 8 May 1677 died unmarried at 24 years old, Elizabeth b. 11 Feb 1680, Hannah b. 13 Sep 1681. Samuel Clapp was Captain, Elder, and Representative in 1689, 1690, 1701, 1705, 1707, and 1709. He was also Selectman for many years. He died 16 Oct 1708 of grief for loss of his wife age 68 who died 8 days before (Genealogical Directory of the First Settlers of New England, Volume I, page 390-391).
