His obituary in the Carroll Chronicle, Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, January 26, 1894.

Samuel J. Cameron died at his home in Carrollton, Ohio, Wednesday morning about 1 o'clock. He had been in poor health foe a year or more and for the past six months physicians had no hopes of his recovery. The latest symptom in his case was a shrinking and hardening of the liver which produced discoloration to such an extent that many persons who passed him on the street could scarcely recognize him.
Deceased was the second son of Thomas Cameron, lately deceased, and was born in Washington Township, this county, July 2, 1847. The father moved to town in 1863 and the subject of this notice went into the old Free Pree office to learn type-setting. That office was then owned by Judge McCoy and George Teter. In 1869 he bought out Judge McCoy. The partnership of Teter & Cameron continued until about 1874 when he bought out his partner's interest for Judge Tripp, and the firm name was changed to S. J. Cameron & Co. This arrangement continued until about 1881 when he sold out to Judge Tripp and started the Republican, which paper he owned at the time of his death. His connection with the newspaper was as manager and in this respect was very successful.
He was not connected with any church, but he leaned toward the Presbyterian, the church of his fathers, and regularly contributed a reasonable sum to its support. Rev. James H. Hawk, late pastor of that church, came from Bluffton, Indiana, yesterday to attend the funeral, which occurs today at 2 o'clock in the Presbyterian church. Deceased had many good traits of character which his intimate friends recognized and appreciated. He had his faults, too, like all of human kind, implanted in every human heart forgets at the grave. The Masonic and K. P. Lodges of Minerva and Canton have been invited to attend the funeral and a special train will return to Canton, leaving here at 4 p.m. to Carry the visitors home. The Masonic fraternity will have charge of the funeral.

This was also in the same paper following his obituary ----- An autopsy of the remains was conducted by the physicians of Carrollton, in accordance with a request of the deceased. Dr. Skeels informs us that the only organs found to be diseased were the kidneys which were enlarged but were almost destroyed by multiple cystic degeneration, which had so impaired their function that general dropsy resulted which was the immediate cause of death. The liver was found pale, some what reduced in size, with granular surface.
