Samuel (2) Budlong, son of Samuel (1) and Katherine (Rhode) Budlong, was born November 2, 1763, at Warwick, R. I. His lot was cast in troublous times, as the war for American independence broke out while he was a young man and he at once hastened to offer his services in the cause of his country. He enlisted as a drummer boy when but sixteen years of age, and later became a private in the company of Captain Allen Johnston, in Colonel Thomas Tillinghast's regiment of Rhode Island militia. After his death his widow drew a pension for his service. He married, April 3, 1791, Waitey Salisbury, born December 19, 1771, and died October 14, 1857, a daughter of Nathan Salisbury, of Cranston.
