Benton, Samuel, Hartford. Will dated 4 April, 1744: I, Samuel Benton of Hartford, being advanced in years even to old age, do make this my last will and testament: I give to my wife Sarah 1-3 part of my moveable estate forever; also I give her 1-3 part of my real estate for her improvement during her natural life. I give unto my son Samuel Benton, besides what I have formerly given to him by deeds of gifts, a certain piece of land containing 8 acres more or less, lying in Hartford, in the west division, butted north on land of Jonathan Easton, west on land of Samuel Benton, east and south on a highway and on the commons, to be to him and his heirs forever. I give to my son Caleb, besides what I formerly gave him, £120 money I paid towards the purchase of his house, barn and homelott. Also, I give to my sd. son Caleb Benton and to his heirs forever 40 acres of land in my western right at Harwington. My will is that the land in Tolland I formerly gave my son Daniel Benton by a deed shall be in full of his portion of my estate. I give to my son Jacob Benton, besides what I have formerly given him, all the remainder of my western right of land in Harwington, to him and his heirs forever. I give to my son Moses Benton, and to his heirs forever, all the land belonging to me in Hartford (excepting what I have before disposed of), with all the buildings thereon and appurtenances thereto belonging; also I give him two oxen, two horses, cart and plow, harrow, timber chain, plow chain, and all tackling belonging to the same; also I give him a cow and axe, a hoe and a spade; also I give him a weaver’s loom and tackling belonging to the same. I give to my daughter Sarah 20 shillings old tenor. I give to my daughter Lydia Benton one featherbed and furniture to it, blankets and sheets. I also give her one cow and 6 sheep. Also I give her one room in my house to live in so long as she shall remain unmarried. Also my will is that all the remainder of my moveable estate not already given away be equally divided among my three daughters, Hannah, Abigail and Lydia, at inventory price. I appoint my son Moses Benton and Lydia Benton to be sole executors.
