Ryland W. "Cookie" Cook, 87 of Waterville, OH passed away on Friday, June 14, 2013, from the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky, Ohio. Ryland was born on January 12, 1926, in Hicksville, OH and moved to Toledo in 1937.
A graduate of Scott High School, Cookie served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a rifleman and was decorated with the Bronze Star. Upon his return from service Ryland married Lila (Prescott) and they were married for 65 years. He worked at Kellermeyer Chemical as a truck driver 42 years, retiring in 1989.
He was a member of VFW Post #11115 in Maumee. Cookie was an avid outdoorsman who loved to go canoeing and enjoyed his hunting trips. A jack-of-all-trades, Cookie was a handyman who could fix anything.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patricia Hardenbrook. He is survived by his loving wife, Lila; children, Donald David (Sharon) Cook and Pamela (Terry) Strayer; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale Ave., on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorials may be given to The Alzheimer's Association .
